General discussion

That YouTube app. HDTech will love this.

Because of a fortunate work our office is doing I was able to check out the Google YouTube app on a lot of devices in the past week.

I don't want to tell all but the devices with keyboards all failed in the same way. Ready?

You run up the YouTube app and get the focus in the search box. There it is, with the blinking cursor just like you expected and then you press a keyboard key.

What happens next is not what we expected. If you pressed the letter S you don't get S in the search box but focus is now on the first video that started with the letter S.

Just thought you would like to read this issue is not exclusive to any maker. I can't wait until the bluetooth keyboard shows up so we can test this on the other devices.

Update. New Bluetooth keyboard and the Nexus.

I didn't know what to expect but it appears that Google fixes their own stuff first. On the Nexus the keyboard worked as expected. That is, the focus stayed in the search box and the letters appeared. Other tablets appear to be broken as well as most if not all HDTVs.

Here's the youtube app version on the Nexus.

-->> 4.1.47 <<--

The other new tablet only had 4.0.23 with its maker clueless about the issue.

While it's on some PC the playback is hit and miss. I have some videos that are audio only, some just show the play button and about 1 in 10 play.
