thankyou letter will not come up on website

by celerys / June 4, 2008 7:47 PM PDT

I have been trying for days to get my thankyou letter on my website via smartftp. I already have my first page up but my thankyou page will not do the same. This message keeps coming up (A socket operation was attempted to an unreachable host. Resolving host name my website address-client closed connection) the answer to the problem is to go http://www.smartftp.com/support/kb/58. Which I did go to followed all the direction but it will not work. I have tried over and over again. I do not think that the connection is there properly. I contacted my hoster of my website but they say that the system is working correctly from there end so I do not know what to do. As I can not get my website up until I get my thankyou page up properly. Can you help me?

How are you attempting to display this thank you letter?
by MarkFlax Forum moderator / June 4, 2008 9:21 PM PDT

There's a number of issues here, and I am not the best person to provide answers, but perhaps I can give some pointers.

You say little about your web page or this letter. What format is this letter in, and how do you intend to display the letter on your web site?

When creating web pages we need to create an initial file, usually called Index, in html format. Html is the format of most web pages, and that Index file is what is usually displayed when a surfer first visits a personal web site.

From that page, the surfer is then offered links to other pages in the site, but that Index.html has to have links to the other web pages for the surfer to follow, and those links must also be pages in html format.

So, what format is your thank you letter in? If it is a document or text file you have to create a carefully crafted web page to enable it to be displayed, and that will not always work. If you have created a web page that 'includes' the text of the thank-you letter, then that page must be linked-to from the initial Index page.

Can you tell us more therefore?

Mark

Please tell more.

What I understand:

- You use smartftp to copy your home page (say, index.htm) to the webserver and it works OK.
- You use smartftp to copy a 'thankyou page' (say, thankyou.htm) to the same webserver and you get an error.

Please tell us the differences between (a) what you do and (b) the documents. I see no reason why you shouldn't be able to copy one file and not a quite similar one.

Kees

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
