The manual or support website for the model build, etc. can show what was put into it, like a Dell, eMachine, from the order sheet. The specs explain the install of ram through thier "mapping list" but most basic ram install is just put it in and forget it. A good rule of thumb is largest ram stick in slot 1 them next largest. While you can install PC2100 and PC2700 for example, the system will go as fast as the slowest ram stick, fyi.

Hi There I want to upgrade my memory in my computer but I don't know how to find out what sort of memory I have. I know I have 256mb but don't know if its sdram pc2100 etc, also can I put a 512mb memory stick in the next slot if I have a 256 one in the first slot or do they have to match ie 256mb with another 256mb Many thanks to anyone who answers this and have a Happy Christmas and a Happy New Year.
