text values imported as numeric values in Visio 2003

Feb 2, 2011 12:48AM PST

I have created a org chart with Visio which includes a field that represent employee numbers. The source excel field has this field formated as text but it still imports into Visio as a numeric field. Employee numbers that have preceeding 00 are then dropped.

You can try if the import in Visio adheres to the Excel convention (in most situations) that something starting with a quote (say '007Cool is treated as text, not numeric. It might do it. But just as well, it doesn't. Then force it to be text by representing it as (007Cool for example. That might be clear enough for the org chart.

I added quotes and the values still import as numeric fields, any other ideas?

Thanks,
