IF you are doing this WITH the kids knowledge, depending on the provider, there are apps that can be put on the phone that will do this. I know that ATT has one so probable some of the other providers have one also. I use ATT and got an email about their new app for this purpose last week. Here is a copy and paste from the email.

"AT&T Messages makes it easier to stay connected. Now, when you're using your computer and you receive a text or voicemail message, you can text a response right from your desktop. When you're on the go, you can continue the same conversation thread using your Android phone or Android tablet. "

If you want to do this without their knowledge, I doubt that can be done because they will see the app on their phone.

This needs some explanation.

If you want to get them as soon as they are sent, talk to your provide (like AT&T or Verizon) and ask if they have the option to convert an incoming SMS to an email and send that to you.

If you want (say) a weekly copy of SMS from your phone to your PC, consult the manual on how to do that. There's no standard way.
