Text & GIF Attachment problem occurring in Outlook Express

Mar 13, 2005 2:35AM PST

How do I correct my Outlook Express to stop the text of a received message from also showing up as an attachment to that same e-mail? Also, pictures that used to be received (such as .gifs) in the body of messages no longer appear with the text, but are received only as attachments.

Thank you, Lillian

try this
Mar 13, 2005 4:26AM PST

click on tools

click on options

click on security

click on internet zone

check box warn me when other applications try to send mail as me

Uncheck box Do not allow attachments to be saved or opened that could potentially be a virus

Remember NEVER open an email (or attachments)from someone that you don't know

Click on your account and uncheck all the boxes(so the emails will not download to your computer until you click on them(this prevents viruses from coming into your computer thru email)

And always make sure that your Virus protection is up to date.

If you are not using any, I suggest that you click here for some FREE protection

Thank you PudgyOne. The boxes at Tools >Options >Security >Internet were already checked/unchecked the way you suggested. I do have an updated Norton AV. However, I'm not sure where to find "my Account" so I could uncheck all the boxes so the e-mails will not download until I click on them as you recommend.

in the column

In the column where your in box and sent boxes are.

Click on the account above the in box. You will see anywhere from 2 to five boxes(depending on the account type you have. Uncheck all the boxes. When your computer checks for messages, it will only give you the headers. This way, if someone sent you an email with a virus, if stopped at the server. when you click on the mail you want it will download at that time. If there's an email from someone you don't know, then you can delete it with no harm to your computer.

This will not work with certain accounts(gmail.com or yahoo.com)

"MailWasher Pro: 4.1.9" allows you to preview multiple accounts and all aspects of your e-mails before you download them. It also allows you to delete and bounce e-mails back to the originator, but is not recommended. Another feature helps identify and mark e-mail as normal, virus, possibly virus, possibly spam, probably spam, chain letter, and blacklisted, so you can deal with the e-mail as you wish. Other features are comprehensive customizable filters, use of MAPS RBL to identify spammers, multiple accounts, visual and auditory notification of new e-mail, minimization to system tray, and much more. It is compatible with POP3 servers.
