Text boxes are possessed!

Apr 23, 2005 5:18PM PDT

OK, I am not on the affected computer so I am unable to give all the specs required but am hoping someone can help. For some reason, I am unable to enter text in text boxes, it appears as though someone is typing in the letter x continuously. It happens in every program, even in command prompt. I tried to get to the help menu but it wouldn't let me scroll up, it was sticking at end of index list (x listings) I can sometimes type something if I can get the field cleared, usually done by hitting ctrl + backspace then holding backspace down continuously while I type what i need to find but I must quickly move the cursor to an inactive area and click it so the text box becomes inactive, but this doesn't always work. I tried opening my computer to scan for errors and when I tried to click on the icon the demon living in my computer started typing those x's in the drive's name field. I am no expert but I am not a novice either, and in all the years I have been using computers, (only about 10)i have never encountered anything like it. The computer in question is a compaq presario laptop running the Windows XP OS. I may be able to log in on it if need be to send anyone who can help any needed info. I can not afford to do what i would like to do with this laptop because I need it and frankly chunking it out of a fourth story window could cause serious damage to someone. lol Please, Please help, I 'm losing it...
Thanks- jokerjane

Hi I am on the beast right now but am not sure what info you need from me in order to help. Funny, it is not doing it right now, but it was for the first 20 minutes I had it on. I hate to tell you how I have gotten it to stop this time, but mainly I bang on the crtl + backspace keys (sometimes I hit a bunch others in my frustration) but sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't, all I know is that it always irritates. I have done the restore already several times, but now I can't because can't get it to click in other date to make it active, oh man- this laptop is borrowed from my mom-in-law PLEASE PLEASE HELP ME GOD"S WRATH WOULD BE LESS AWFUL TO ENDURE THAN HERS PLEASE. ok thanks.

Not very usefull. Try IEFIX which you find with google.com

The issue is known, but the cure is elusive. The cause is usually SPYWARE.

X's are a typing

Hey Bud, let me know if you hear anything about this. I have a Compaq Evo N610 with the same symptoms. I have replaced keyboard drivers, switched ports from a port replicator to the Laptop itself, Uninstalled keyboard drivers and had XP find and re-install. used a Keyboard and Mouse splitter all but too no avail. The only thing left is to image the darn thing or call a vendor. would appreciate any assistance as well, but will keep researching. If I find anything I will let you know.

Thanks..DX
