Resolved Question

testing harddrive

Feb 24, 2014 3:01PM PST

Hi all, I upgraded a friends laptop to Win 7, but I suspect the harddrive might be failing. Is there a small program I can download to test the hard drive, or does win Dos command come with one.
Any help appreciated

Try to find the makers diagnostic program.

For Dell, for example, they are in a separate partition you can reach from boot. But probably that doesn't work anymore if you installed Windows 7.
But the disk makers (like Western Digital) have their own diagnostics. But you have to know what the maker is.
