Terrorist Guild Holds WoW Server Hostage

Feb 20, 2006 1:14AM PST

Interesting...

The Imperial Order, a World of Warcraft guild on the Detheroc server, is holding the server hostage. The guild has completed the various quests needed to obtain a septer used to ring a gong. Ringing the gong will open the gates giving everyone on the server access to new content, but the guild refuses to do it. At least, they refuse to do it until someone pays them 5,000 gold.

It's getting kinda creepy just how much online life imitates real life.

the real world

On the one hand, it is so stupid and I want them to be punished somehow. And on the other hand, I kind of respect the audacity of it because of the real world statement it makes. NOBODY would know or even care about that guild except now it has made geek news headlines even outside of the game. Kind of how the real world works.

I love it.

This is what makes these sort of games interesting to play, and follow (I don't play WoW, myself). Instead of everyone conforming to a set of gameplay rules, and all doing the same things; a few people come up with something crazy, like this, break the pattern and show what the genre is all about in the end: humans.
