Terrific George Washington Military Bio Saturday!

May 30, 2006 1:25PM PDT

the show (on the History Channel Saturday 6/3 at 8:00pm and midnight) is
Washington the Warrior, and it follows Washington's military career from his days as an overly brash young officer in the French and Indian Wars through his resignation as Commander in Chief in 1783. I watched it tonight (on DDR -- the premier was last night) and it's truly outstanding. (the below is from the linked "blurb" from an independent TV critic page, the first I happened to find).

>> As the program says, the man and the nation came of age together and in the end proved that liberty, not power, was the highest goal a nation could have. Grade: A <<

prominently -- more as an example of what not to do! (Inadequate fortifications, and more importantly his failure to clear the surrounding forest out to musket range).

Very good. It's hard for writers not to deify Washington, and they are not an exception. But if anyone deserves deification it would probably be him.
