Temporary image file when copying a disc in Toast 6

Nov 14, 2005 3:14AM PST

I tried to copy a DVD with Toast 6.0.3 on MacOS 10.4 and it failed 3/4 through reading the disc. It seems to have not deleted the image file it was temporarily creating on my hard drive. The problem is I can't find where it stored it and it's taking up 4.5gb on my hard drive. I've browsed around, including a folder called Roxio Converted Items, with no luck. Can anyone help?

try a search

for any file that is similar to the DVD you were trying to copy.
If this was not a commerical disk, Toast will not copy commericial disk, then the temp file probably has the same name as the original.
If it was a ripped disk, then the folder you are looking for is probably VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS (This one is empty)

Good luck

No luck

Thanks. It is not a commercial release and the only title the DVD has is a long string of numbers (I searched for em, but had no luck). In Toast it shows up as <No Volume> or something, which I also searched in vain for.

It was a live dvd, so it was probably burned initially using a VIDEO_TS folder, but I was not ripping it, just copying it.

Check the prefs of Toast

and see if you can find where is stores the Temp files when burning.

Didn't help unfortunately

It says they're being stored in a folder called Roxio Converted Items, but when I check it it's empty. Maybe a temporary image file doesn't count as a converted item; I have no idea. This is just ridiculously confusing.

File size

Here's an idea - is there anyway to see what the largest files on your hard drive are?

Sure there is

Just hold down the Apple Key and press F and in the resulting box, press and hold the KIND button. The bottom option should be size.

Then off you go

Still no luck

My computer claimed it didn't have any files of the size I was looking for, which is clearly wrong.

Basically, I just need to figure out where Toast stores the image files it creates when it copies a disc with one drive. I copied another disc and while it was copying (and had temporarily taken up another 3gb of my drive) searched for where the file that had just been crated was, with no luck.

I've tried all the Roxio technical support options and none of them seem to work. The site won't let me register to get to the Roxio discussion groups either.

Same problem
Dec 12, 2005 6:11AM PST

Hey there,

I had the same problem myself and have exhausted everything trying to figure out where my 4+GB has gone too. Have you had any luck figuring it out by chance?

Roxio's support is just garbage. It takes 4-5 minutes just to load the support page and when trying to send a support email, it either never loads or server errors out. Phone support is useless as well.

Thanks for any help!

Nope, sorry

I never figured it out. And you're right, Roxio's tech support is completely useless. If you do figure it out, let me know! Thanks.

Have you looked in

users/yourname/documents/roxio/roxio converted items?

Seems like it has that in the preferences as the place to put converted items which it then, supposedly, deletes when Toast quits

Tried that...

Thanks, I tried that just now and it's empty... maybe its a hidden file? Nada there... this is so frustrating. I can't believe we have to spend $35 with Roxio tech support to fix their goof!

But, better than reformatting my hard drive I suppose - just barely!

Thanks!!
