"TEMP" Folder..

WinXP/SP2/IE6

Good evening..
Using Path: Start-My Computer-C:- Docs/settings-my name-
Local Settings-"TEMP"..
There is one File that will not Delete out..
TMP File ~DF2E05 16KB=size.
these Files show up also.."MAR and STS" and they are numbered 1,2,3 etc..these can be Deleted with no Problem though..

I have tried to delete in Explore..and "SafeMode",and there it doesnt even show in the TEMP Folder at all, folder is empty! when I Restart PC back out of SafeMode,,the TMP file is back in TEMP Folder again..Each time I Restart PC,its there, but diffrent,,the numbers and letters change..Ive read all can find, mostly at MS site and no help on deleting it there,or what the File actually is either!..Im getting very concered it may be Trouble?? I have done several diffrent virus scans, with diffrent programs, including my NAV and LavaSoft program ..All are clean!
I normally clean out PC every night before shutting down, done this forever, the way i was taught early on,years ago..
Another problem with this TMP file,,other then not knowing what the File is..I have to "delete" files one by one, cant Select All/Delete when that one TMP file cant be deleted..
Any help will be much Appreciated..Thank you.
SumerBrez.
P.S.When I use this Path: Start/My Computer/C:/WINDOWS/TEMP
That TMP file isnt there..The Folder is empty..

Try this. Go here http://www.softwarepatch.com/software/moveonboot.html and download Move on Boot. From the description:

Description
MoveOnBoot allows you to Move, Copy or Delete files before Windows can lock or alter the files. The changes are made to your hard drive before Windows starts (it requires a restart of your system after you give MoveOnBoot its instructions). There are no messy boot or DOS commands, just a simple 3-step process.

Keep me posted you know where.

If Move on Boot removes it, and it shows up again, it may be something normal. Or not. Do you still have a copy of Process Explorer? If so, run it and send me a screen shot.

Sumer, To Delete All Files At Once Except....

In reply to: "TEMP" Folder..

...the problem file, simply choose "Select All", then hold down the "Ctrl" key, and click once on the problem file to "un-highlight" it.. Now choose "Delete" or click on the "X" to cause all the files to disappear except for the problem file. And yes, it should only appear in the path "Start-My Computer-C:- Docs/settings-my name-Local Settings-"TEMP"" you have described.

The "~DF2E05.tmp" file is obviously being created by a program that runs in "normal" Windows only. Since you don't find it after booting into Safe Mode, it's clear the program doesn't startup in Safe Mode. There are number of legitimate programs that perform such placements and some that aren't so legitimate. Your task is to determine which program is creating the file. You should be able to do it through a process of elimination by UNCHECKING boxes in "msconfig" or something similar.

Hope this helps.

SumerBrez, Those ~DF2E05 16KB=size files are being created by the Windows Defender Program or whatever it may be called now. You generally won't be able to delete any that were created in the last 48 hours. They don't take up much room and are nothing to worry about. So if you have Windows Defender installed that's what is creating them.

In reply to: RE: "TEMP" Folder..

Good evening Tufenuf..
I did have the "Beta" Defender installed..This is a new built PC and guess tech installed for me..or in updates? as they installed those also..anyway,the Defender Program I had, went out on Dec31st..
Its no longer "Installed" on my PC..It seem to work good for me.knew of no problems with it..
Search for it shows only in TEMP Folder..guess its that TMP file in question?
If so maybe there is something left of it (Defender)..Each time I Restart PC,same File is there,in TEMP Folder, same File but with diffrent Letters and Numbers.
Thank you kindly..
