Temp files in Docs folders and sub-folders

I've noticed lately a slew of temp files in my Documents folder and sub-folders. I've never noticed these before--and I mean they are in a folder when I just open it up, not after I've been working on docs in that folder for a while. Is there any setting I can check in Folder Options that will disable this? It is a bit of a distraction, unless I really want to see them in these folder, for some reason.
