Telenet?

Will some one please explain to me in beginners language what telenet is? Thank you!

Not long ago we used simple command line (commands) to do stuff with computers in general. Before that, we had punch cards, tapes, switches and it gets even more bizarre, but let's focus on that COMMAND LINE.

TELNET is a means to get to a command line on some computer.
