Techtool Pro 4.5.3 - is it compatible with OS X 10.5.1?

Nov 18, 2007 3:49PM PST

I am a technophobe rather than technophile. Since installing OS X 10.5.1 I am getting the spinning beach ball from hell often. Things got progressively slower.

I then ran DiskWarrior CD Rev. 40 to discover an amazing 20% of directory files were wrong. I ran it through its repair. Still numerous operatng problems.

So I tried to run Techtool Pro 4.5.3. The suite of tests will not run all the way through. I get a message that 4.5.3 has not been tested with 10.5.1.

This is on my 17" Powerbook G4 with 1 Gig ram. Any info?

I have TechTool Deluxe on my MBP,

and it does give me the same message when I open it, but it doesn't fail to operate correctly. Though once it reported a directory problem and asked me to download the repair and detect package... which was taking to long to download anyway, so I never did that.

Anyway, it should work though I'm surprised why it cuts out at one point. Mine doesn't, but you have a PPC machine while mine's Intel. Perhaps this is because my software differed from your APP CD. If it works the same as TechTool Deluxe, then tell me what processes and checks you are running. I tend to run all of them except for the directory scan or whichever one scans the entire machine.
Hope this helps,

I feel like I'm sticking my neck out since installing 10.5

without the security blanket of having TechTool Pro & DiskWarrior compatible yet. Since installation my directory of files & folders corrupted to 20% out of sequence within a couple of days. Astounding that it was still operating with that much screwed up.

So, for me, DiskWarrior is almost working at 100% & TechTool Pro goes through about 75% of the routine then craps out.

Both are to become compatible fairly soon.

20% Directory Out of sequence

I would not be too concerned about that figure. While all directories could stand some tidying up, yours is not anything special with the 20% figure.
True, a newly organised directory looks good in the DW graph but as soon as you quit DW and move on with life, the directory is no longer perfect.

I have a G4 whose HD, the boot volume, is currently at 56% out of order and is long overdue for a DW run. I have a slight problem with the Shutdown/Restart sequence which causes problems with DW.
The machine is still running though.
