Question

Tech issue with Bios settings on Samsung Laptop NPV350V5C

Sep 4, 2015 3:15AM PDT

Hi. I have to log into a system using a dongle with linux, which over the last 9 months i use by going into my bios, changing "os mode selction" to "UEFI & Legacy", and then also changing PXE OPROM, from disabled to enabled. I tried this yesterday and think i mistakenly touched f9, now PXE OPROM cannot be selected so i cannot now change from disabled to enabled, so my usb drive will nolonger boot.
Have already tried Samsung support and they cannot help.
Really appreciate any help.
Full model ref: NP350V5C-A06UK
Running win 8.1

Answer
I don't own this so I have to share generic methods.

First I have to test the clients boot USB on another PC. I've lost track of how many times the USB, DVD, CD or such has failed and they are chasing the wrong duck.

After I'm sure it boots on a shop dog I reset the laptop using this very safe method. Power out, pull battery, press and hold the power button for 60 seconds, release, slip in the battery, apply power and try again.

Some BIOS's are really tough to get into. As I don't own your model and am not there I can't write much more than it can be a challenge. Sometimes you just have to have it looked at by others.

Thanks, I've tried that with no luck.

I've spoken to Samsung again and they think there could be a problem with the motherboard, which seems odd as the pc is functioning perfcetly fine, (I'm using it right now) but no mattter what I try, i cannot change the PXE OPROM, from disabled to enabled in the Bios, this is something i used to do all the time...

Been in support with the company I'm servicing with all day and they can't fix and Samsung haven't a clue, so looks like i need a new pc... was never grea switching OS all the time but this is very odd.

That last thing.

Make a new bootable USB and test it on this and other PCs. It's a recurring find or issue.

http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/324872-30-boot-bios-asus-x501a is another model but UEFI BIOS boot options are a maze. I do not have your PC so I can't tell if there are other settings to try such as discussed there or if there is a CSM (Corporate Stable Mode.)
