Question

Team 256gb SSD reading as 1GB HDD

Oct 19, 2018 10:16AM PDT

Hello, I recently came across a Dell Optiplex 7010 that was free and found its way to my mom's boss as a working computer. I sold her the computer about a month ago, and 2 weeks ago the PSU failed. I ordered a new one which came in today and is the same as the original model and after installing it, im getting boot device not found errors.

After going into the BIOS, I realized the SSD is being read by the computer as a 1GB HDD - Is there anyway to fix this? Is the SSD bad? I can not get it to post but when I popped in the Windows install disc, I can not reformat it and Windows still reads it as a 1GB HDD.

Answer
It's likely the SSD was cloned from a 1TB HDD.

Negative

I did a fresh install of everything and downloaded the necessary files myself. Nothing was transferred. I put the SSD in myself. I have my home computer to run tests but would have no idea how to fix it from there.

Negative on what step?

The diskpart commands?
Clone job?
Any prior 1TB drive?

The size is set by a few things so I'd make sure my BIOS is current and try the diskpart commands and then back to Team to ask them how to fix it.

My method so far has been to DBAN the drive then see what the BIOS thinks about it.

Put the disk in your machine and see what your disk management says about it.

Use a different sata cable not the original to connect it to your mobo.
