TCP/IP in the dumps

by colfrank / March 27, 2010 10:21 AM PDT

XP Pro SP3
NO new software added, no changes to anything.
My connections have dropped to about 50 BYTES/second.
Pages do not load
Home network cannot "see" other computers.
Three other computers on the network all work fine with
high speed transfers.

I have done lots of scans looking for "bad stuff"... nothing found.
Disabled Firewall (ZoneAlarm) and Anit-Virus (AVG).. nothing helped.
Found some Microsoft KB to reset TCP/IP... no help.
Winsock reset... no help

BTW, this is both wireless and hard wired connections.
So there is some common problem.

Any ideas out there, as this sure is a puzzle (and frustrating
'cuz I can usually solve my problems)

Frank

Is this Modem to Router to Computer?

If so, have you cycled the modem and router? Turn them both off, wait 2 minutes, turn them both back on.

Are you able to access the router's set up pages?

The problem is in the computer
by colfrank / March 27, 2010 11:51 PM PDT

Yes, I have reset those.
The connection to the router is so slow I cannot even get to the router settings.
I cannot see any of the other computers on the home network.

Three other computers on the same network all work fine.

Did a SFC /Scannow.. showed no problems.
Disabled the internal wireless and installed a USB ... no help.
Took the laptop down the hall, plugged it into the router... no help.
So, it is something common to both wireless and cable TCP/IP
