Below you'll find the settings I found best for viewing the TCL L40FHDP60 in a dim room via the HDMI input. Your settings may vary depending on source, room conditions, and personal preference. Check out the Picture settings and calibration FAQ for more information.

Calibration notes: The TCL's best initial setting, entitled "Cinematic," was exceedingly blue and too bright. Changing any of the sparse picture parameters engaged the Personal mode, so I used that to make my adjustments. The highest of the numeric color temperature presets, "2," got rid of a lot of the blue but also allowed a lot to remain. I tweaked the settings I could but color was still quite inaccurate afterward.

The trade-off here was between the primaries and the secondaries. Making the secondary colors look good made the primaries look terrible -- too red. The settings I settled upon were designed to minimize red discoloration.

The most beautiful phone ever has one wildly annoying issue

The Samsung Galaxy S8's fast speeds and fantastic curved screen make it a top phone for 2017, but the annoying fingerprint reader could sour your experience.
