Question

TCL 4K 40" TV with no wide color gamut: Help needed

Apr 27, 2018 10:56AM PDT

Hello everyone , TCL just launched this new 4k UHD TV in Pakistan
https://www.tclpakistan.com/uhd-tv/40-p62-uhd-tv.html

I'm upgrading from a 27" 1080p Monitor to this 40" one , I''ll probably need it for console gaming and watching movies on my PC(No extra 60fps 4k stuff) but this TV has HDR 10 but no Wide color gamut and many have suggested me to get a bigger 1080p screen but this TV perfectly fits into my 500$ budget and I cannot exceed it to buy LG or Samsung 4ks which costs 1100/1200$ here in PK plus I only sit 5-6feet away from my TV so screen size won't be problem for me , what do you guys suggest?

Clarification Request
Do you have Vizio in Pakistan?
Apr 27, 2018 12:58PM PDT

It's a decent dependable option if sold there. In USA they are inexpensive in Walmart stores. I have one and no problems with it, and especially no spontaneously cracking screen like samsung TV's get.

It's a common complaint for cheap sets.

SAMSUNG MU7000
Apr 27, 2018 12:47PM PDT

I needed a good TV upgrade and I thought of going for 4K because ive been using 1080p stuff from a very long time.
I can go for SAMSUNG MU7000 series 7 the 40" or the 43" one but it is 650$ and has WCG , I didn't even care about what WCG was until somebody told me.

will this be a good buy?

Apr 27, 2018 1:13PM PDT

I can get TCL FHD in 49" variants for a good price but that's not really I want to go for everybody recommends TCL over samsung? Do you suggest a bigger size FHD or this TCL?

Not familiar with those brands, but...

Having ROKU inbuilt is a good feature.

https://www.tclusa.com/about-us

It's a TCL – Inside and Out

TCL is vertically integrated, which means we make every component that goes into the TV and control the entire production process. We are one of only three TV brands worldwide that are fully vertically integrated. What does this mean to you? It allows us to deliver the latest technology and the highest quality product for the absolute best value.

TCL invested more than $20 billion dollars to build a state-of-the-art factory where we make our own panels and build our own TVs, before sending them to the popular retailers where our customers shop. Being able to manufacture the most expensive parts of the TV ourselves allows us to pass this value on to you.

Can you manage one of these models?

NO ROKU Available
Apr 28, 2018 11:21PM PDT

Either I can buy a 49" Standard FHD TCL D2900 or this P62 40" or P6 43".
The 49" one is a simple and standard LED with no smart features but I'll have a PS4 hooked up with it to make it smart with apps etc but obv it'll have no HDR , but should I go for the FHD one even in 2018? I want to go for 4K but cant go for a bigger size.

Distance still a problem
Apr 29, 2018 6:35AM PDT

Looking at a 40” screen, you need to be 2.5 feet to start to notice any bump in resolution to 4K.

I would get a better/larger 1080P (FHD) over a marginal 4K rig. Save your money for something next year when prices drop?

- Collapse -
For me, built in Roku is not a problem.
Apr 29, 2018 7:35AM PDT

When buying a set, it's picture quality first. Here a Roku stick or box is cheap compared to living with a dull picture or one with other issues.

It's something many have to learn. That is, ignore the smart TV hype and focus on picture quality.

Exactly.

The OP started off strong focusing on good PQ, then fell off the bus forgetting about screen size/seating distance.

PQ in a budget
Apr 30, 2018 10:19AM PDT

Guys , I understand about the seating distances for a marginal 4k rig which is only 40" , but that is the budget I can go for right now and I'm not focused on a Hi-Fi Smart TV with magical features I just wanted a TV to keep it with me for a few years and 4K was a good investment for me because other 4K TVS are exceptionally over priced in PK , a good panel will cost me around 165,000lac ruppes which is 1700$ that is of TCL C2 , I'm going to game on this TCL 4K and the distance will be 3-4 feet max and I'll watch movies which will be in 4k and 40" isnt a bigger size but in this budget it can work out , a 43" 4K panel costs me 10k pkr more , I was focused but this is what im getting here in PK where market is very restricted.

That seems to be the price in many countries.
Apr 30, 2018 10:25AM PDT

It's out of line if the country is not economically advanced (sorry but that term is eluding me how to put it better.)

It's like gas. Some countries are higher or lower. Folk seem to get by.

In your case, my advice is to forget the built in Roku and shop for PQ.

SO an FHD?
Apr 30, 2018 10:30AM PDT

Do you suggest an FHD then?

What PK experienced people suggested me
Apr 30, 2018 10:24AM PDT

Person 1 : Investing in a full HD display in 2018 is stupid. Go for the 4K one. Regardless of how average that particular TV is, it is still a 4K display. You can always upgrade it later.

Person 2 : Listen beg borrow or steal but get the 65" 4K one ( which is 1800$)

- Collapse -
Not an investment. You buy these things.
Apr 30, 2018 10:34AM PDT

Folk that use the word investment means you expect to sell it later and recoup the money. Nope. Laptops, TVs and almost all electronics are poor investments.

That said, my every day set is nothing more than 1080p. It seems fine to me so I can wait for a deal or when this one dies.

But
May 1, 2018 6:41AM PDT

I'm buying the TV to keep with myself not to sale it like you told that you already are waiting for a deal to toss it off or when it dies but I can't do that , either I buy a FHD and I keep it for a long time or I buy this average 4K TV , not to sell it afterwards!

Have you bought it?
Jul 4, 2018 1:11AM PDT

Let me know your experience awais if you have bought the 40 inch TCL P62. I was quite pissed off when i went to the TCL display centre and they showed me demonstration without the ROKU TV. I finally changed. I need someone's review on that Simple Linux Based Smartness in 4k in 2018. Thwy don't have Google Play Store in it.

Pretty good 4K TV in 45K PKR
Jul 4, 2018 6:38AM PDT

I was very confused at first between a bigger FHD and this P62 one , It's actually LP62US in the US but there are no Inbuilt ROKU TV's in Pak , It's been two months and it's working great for my needs which is Gaming and watching movies. HDR is not nut kicking in terms of high end 4K TV's but it's pretty good comparing it to Samsung 4k's , Interface is a bit slower but I only use YOUTUBE on it so it does the job for me pretty well. You have several apps and T-cast application to stream stuff from your phone but I sugest getting a good android tv box in 4-5k will make your Smart TV experience way better and many more apps to use and scroll. Overall it's a very good buy considering the price point and plus this is what you can get in this price range in Pakistan. It supports HDR thru everything from HDMI ports to external drives and also on it's built in apps. NETFLIX , YOUTUBE ETC. I've tried it in UHD as well.
Buy it if this is your price range or go for C2 TCL which is 89K Approx.

Tcl p6 review
Aug 18, 2018 11:43PM PDT

Hey awais, have you bought p6 43"? Cureently it is going for 58,000 pkr and i am planning on buying it.

Is it worth buying in this range as my room is small so i am not looking for 50" + screen

And my main use is also ps4 and netflix

Do let me know
Thanks

.
Aug 19, 2018 1:20AM PDT

My regular usage is for Youtube & PS4 , I've tried Netflix on UHD as well it works pretty well although the TV interface gets better after the update. It is a bit slower when you use it mainly for the YouTube but it works well on HDR and PS4 games. I'm pretty much satisfied for the price point it has been set on. If you can't get a better tv for a better price then go for the P6 one but I suggest wait
for the R6 series if not then this is your option.

P62
Oct 16, 2018 11:14PM PDT

I got p62 in August. My main use is for PlayStation 4 and Netflix. I have Nayatel internet connection so I stream 4k content from Netflix. It's a very good tv for its price. The only thing that still troubles me is the TCL's pakistan Facebook page ! People are very angry at tcl pakistan for their sick customer support. Go to their page check
