Taskbar icons

Is there a way I can install an icon on the task bar that will show when I am connected to the internet? I am using a dial up modem. Thanks

ARky, Which Operating System?

For example on Windows XP, you should be able to open the Control Panel, double click on the "Network Connections" icon, then RIGHT click on the icon for your dial-up connection, choose "Properties" and you should see a CHECK box that gives the options for placing a connection icon in the lower right system tray.

In fact, most ISP's have an icon of their own displayed in the system tray. Which Internet Service Provider do you use?

Hope this helps.

dial up icon

Hi Gil,
This is a small town & there are only two choices for dial up ISP's. The phone company is one and mine. My ISP has changed their software and the new software does not provide the icon. It's a little frustrating but that's a small town for you. You cannot connect with any of the major ISP's here unless you want to pay long distance charges. Thanks anyhow!

Arky, Which Operating System?

Despite you having limited choices, you should still be able to display a connection icon in the system tray...Unfortunately, you haven't given us any further information about the computer.

Did you try the procedures that I posted earlier so that the icon will display? It may not be the ISP's icon, but did it work for you at all?

Hope this helps.

taskbar icons

Hello Griff,
I am running a Dell Dimension 4400 with a Conexant modem. Operating system is Win XP Home. Tried right clicking dial up and checked properties but it didn't give a choice to add icon to taskbar.
Thanks

Arky, This Is What I See On This XP HOME Machine...

I open the Control Panel, double click on the "Network Connections" icon, then RIGHT click on my dial-up connection icon. (In my case, Netzero.) I then select the "Properties" listing. When the "Properties" window loads, on the "General" tab, in lower part of the window, is a box next to "Show icon in notification area when connected". Place a CHECK mark in that box to display the connection icon when you have a dial-up connection in process. You should see a set of blinking "dual monitors" in the lower right corner of the screen. If your current ISP doesn't display an icon of it's own, then the blinking monitors is probably all you will get.

Hope this helps.
