Task Manager prpblem

I am running a 1 gh p3 with Abit vh6-ii board. 512mb ram.XP Pro. When Zone alarm (free) needs to ask permission for internet access for an app, it does nothing until I hit alt, ctl, del. Then The Zone alarm interface comes up along with the task manager. I am effectively locked up, and I cannot get out of this without pressing reset. I uninstalled Zonealarm and instaled Zonealarm Pro (trial), Same thing. Uninstall. I just purchased and installed Norton Internet Security 2003. Get all done, same problem. Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks, Ron

Try running System File Checker which will replace any corrupt system files.

I ran the SFC. It repaired some files, but it did not correct the problem. I spent some time turning off services and uninstalling unneeded windows components and now this problem seems to be solved.
