Task bar Customize Notifications doesn't offer options

May 6, 2007 7:26AM PDT

Windows XP Pro with all updates. I have used the Customize Notifications for the task bar notifications numerous times in the past with no problems, but now something is wrong. The behavior drop down selections won't give me any options; no drop downs. ??? How can this be fixed?

Can't Customize Notifications

The "Hide inactive icons" doesn't help. BTW, when I can't customize the Notifications is when I am in the Customize window.

bwk5502, This is the first time I've seen this problem. You are hiliting the icon and you're saying that you don't get any options at all when you click the drop-down arrow button under the Behavior column? I don't know if this will help but you could go to the link below and scroll down to line 99 (left column) and click on "Restore the Task Bar to Default Settings" and download a reg file fix. Save the REG File to your hard disk. Double click it and answer yes to the import prompt. After the import is complete restart your computer.

bwk5502, Have you tried a System Restore to the closest date prior to when this problem started? Like I said before I have never seen this problem and doing many searches I can't find it anywhere.

This problem has been with me for several weeks with lots of computer activity in that time. Unfortunately, System Restore is not an option. Sad

bwk5502, Go into Taskbar Properties and uncheck Hide inactive icons, click Apply/OK and restart your computer.

Hide Inactive Icons (on and off) is one of the first things I tried. It didn't fix the problem. Sad

Hide Inactive Icons Menu

I found when I reduced the size of the Active title bar I was able to access the drop down menu.

Right click desktop, select properties, left click on the appearance tab and then the advanced button and select the active title bar and reduce the size of the bar, the menu was then displayed

A really big THANK YOU to "The Fly" for solving this tricky problem. You must be a very observant person (fly), and thank you for replying to what I thought was a dead end ... no solution problem.

I will never swat another fly.
