by farnand1 / April 6, 2004 4:16 AM PDT

Hi, My task bar, where the time is, is all messed up. It has desktop, links, microsoft, windows update and windows on it. How can I get it back to the way it was when I bought the computer. I have windows Me. It used to have just the clock, my anti virus, the volume. Please can you help me ? farnand1

Have you tried to simply right-click on each item you don't want on your task bar and then selecting 'Exit', or 'Close' on each one?

Of course, when you reboot, those items will probably show up again. In order to make sure the things you don't want in the task bar don't reappear, you need to do this:

Start/Run, then type 'MSConfig' (without the quotation marks).

Look for the 'Start Menu', or 'Startup' tab (I'm at work on a Win2000 computer, so I can't look up the right title for it). Go down the list that appears in that tab, and un-click (remove the 'x') from any program that you feel should not be starting up when you boot your computer.

Hope this works...

Right click the taskbar and select "Toolbars." If the "Links" toolbar is checked, uncheck it. Does that solve the problem?
