Jan 10, 2005 12:09AM PST

Greetings Everyone:

Does anyone know of any brand of Tapeless Camcorders that would record in Mpeg2 format.
Till now, I only know of Panasonic D Snap model.
If anyone has any information on these camcorders or would like to comment feel free to post your messages.

Tapeless Camcorders which one to buy?
Jan 10, 2005 10:08AM PST

Hello again Everyone:

I've been doing research on these new Camcorders and wondered if anyone has had any experience with them.

Others have mentioned that these Camcorders have difficulty filming in low light conditions, and also
come with low quality digital zoom features.

I would be glad to hear from anyone who has used them.

Camcorders at PMA!!!!!!
Jan 14, 2005 11:22PM PST

Greetings Everyone:

I can't wait for the Photographic Marketing Asso. show that will happen at the end of Feburary 2005.
I hope we will see many new Camcorder companies showing off new Tapeless Camcorder with newly never seen features.

I would like to see at least one Camcorder with an Anti Shake feature, this would be a winner.

Why I want to do this?

Greetings:

Yes Mini DV is very good quality video, but these tapeless Camcorders are pocketable, fit anywhere.

I believe that in the next few years video tape will be less available, and consumers will want smaller camcorders.

Good luck. Somehow, at $200 for a 2 gig card, I don't

think this is going to knock out $6 tapes that can store 6 times as much data.

The JVC looks really Cool!!!!
Jan 11, 2005 7:36AM PST

Thanks Obscura:

I had a look at the JVC review, and this looks like a real winner for quality, probably better than the Panasonic.
Although this camera does not fall into the pocketablity category.
It also looks similar to the Pentax models.

I think that compact version of Tapeless Camcorder would include Anti Shake features to make the camera better.

GZ-MC100 is smaller
Jan 21, 2005 1:43AM PST

In the days since that last post I've gone to Fry's to test out the GZ-MC200 and it's sister camcorder the GZ-MC100. I found that I like the GZ-MC100 better. It feels more comfortable in my hands and I was able to stead it better than the other form factor.

The 100 is also seems quite a bit smaller and it's a little less expensive.

I'll be buying one soon and I'll post a follow-up with links to a few sample clips.

Has anyone heard of Salton Camcorders
Jan 13, 2005 8:22AM PST

Greetings

Has anyone heard of Salton Camcorders?

They seem to have a unique style design of Camcorder.

Wondered if anyone has come across their website, I would
be interested in having a look.

Bought, used and returned. Great concept but doesn't deliver vs.miniDV. Records mpeg2 onto 4G Microdrive &/or SD card. Cons: long start up time, poor low light, video quality still not there, subpar build quality, only 2megapixel stills. Still waiting for a high quality tapeless camcorder/still picture combo that can hold at least 60 minutes video.

Low Light features to be Improved!!!!
Jan 12, 2005 3:49AM PST

Greetings:

I think your right Solbier that many of these Tapeless Camcorders have poor low light features.

Although this will improve in the next generation of Tapeless Camcorders.
Also anti shake features should be included, because of their small size these Camcorder shake a lot.

I think in about 6 to 12 months we should be seeing the next generation of Tapeless Camcorders.

Tapeless Camcorders

Rob,
I have a Canon SD300 digital camera, that so far seems to have the best video I have seen. It records onto SD memory in an AVI file format. It is not a camcorder but does a pretty good job recording video at 30 FPS and 640x480. You might also want to look at the Samsung ITCAM7 or the Sony DSC-M1. I have tried the Panasonic D-Snap, and it was garbage.
