Taking sunset's into the sun !

Oct 14, 2004 2:37AM PDT

Your years I've been taking pic's directly into the sun and receiving a star on the photo when viewed and printed. The ray's can be from 2 to 6 points depending on how bright the sun is ? I'm using a MVC-FD/200.
I feel it's caused by the brightnes and the lens, and I asked the manfacturer and was told to turn off the LDC light but that doesn't work. Is there any way using a lense filter,a different lens or a different camera to correct the star's ?
Thanks,
