Taking picture without FLASH

Mar 13, 2005 6:03PM PST

1 month ago, inside a shopping mall, a salesgirl demo a Sony DSC T33 to me.
She turn off the FLASH and she shake her hand UP and DOWN (and she snap a pic). The picture is very clear!

I quite suprise because my 2 years old Nikon digital camera can't do that (whenever i turn off the flash, my picture will get blur).

Last week, when i want to buy a digital camera. i told a salesman i want that feature. He said Sony has no such feature. He said Panasonic got the feature, called Mega O.I.S. (e.g Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX7).

It get me more confuse...
i saw in my real eyes two month ago..

I want a digital camere that can taking pictures indoors with normal lighting and no flash.
Do you think sony DSC-t33 able to do that?

Your pictures are blurring because you are moving the

camera while the shutter is open. Without flash, and in low light, digital cameras hold the shutter open longer. If you move it while it's open, it will blur.

Try putting your camera on a tripod, or rest it on something solid. Then take the picture, but don't move the camera. You should get a good picture.

What you may be looking for is a camera that has a better low light ability.

Most shopping malls have pretty good lighting.

It was probably something the Sony distributor showed her to present the Sony T33 in the best light (pun intended).

The T33 has several mode selections which are very helpful in certain situations.

The T33 has one called "High Speed Shutter".
The camera will select the fasterst shutter speed possible for the light available.

If you had the T33 in normal mode, it would have selected a more balanced shutter/aperture setting. Which would have resulted in blurred movement.

Most of the point-n-shoot cameras have these mode selections.
People should take advantage of them more often.

The only real gripe people have with the "T" series of Sony cameras is the very weak flash. It is only rated for about a 5 foot coverage.

......

Take a look at the mode selections on your camera.
Use them whenever you encounter unique photo situations.
You will get better photos.
