Assuming a good Windows 8 tablet is $600 and lasts for 3 years it's $17 a month. If being able to work with pdf's, drawings, documents and spreadsheets on the floor isn't worth $17 a month ($1 a day) it's bad investment.
I doubt if an iPad can access a shared Windows or Linux drive.

Hi
I work for an engineering & manufacturing firm and we are moving towards using tablets on a day to day basis on the shop floor.
Primarily the tablet will be used for looking at PDFs, E-Drawings and looking at photos.
It will also be used for documents, spreadsheets and Word Docs - does not necessarily have to be Microsoft Office (Google Docs etc are an option).
We want to link the device directly to the network so that we can access shared drives etc.
I have looked at Windows tabs and iPads and we are not willing to spend the money.
With that in mind can anyone recommend a tablet suited to my needs?
