Tabletop music systems

Searching the web for Bose competitors, I've found most of those systems have reviews that go back 2-3 years and seem to elicit two significant short-comings--unreliability and price. The Bose Wave radio/cd/iPod unit is too expensive for just a kitchen radio/player, have a reputation for poor bass quality, and are only controlled by a remote with no buttons to use if you misplace the remote. Furthermore, when I've viewed many of the sites for other units such as Sony, Teac, Cambridge, Polk and others that offer(ed) a competing triple-featured unit, they are often not available or in limited availability through a few jobbers as though they're close-outs. Is there anything out there in the $200-$300 range that has these features with reasonable quality and reliability? CNET reviews hasn't featured any reports recently on this spectrum.
