I went back to pen and paper as a tablet replacement. There are nice tablets and as my office is writing Android apps and more, I've had my pick of any tablet made and can try out apps. But in the end, back to pen, pencil and paper.

I use a pen and pad a lot for my job. I would like to switch from paper to tablet for two primary reasons. First, I would like to avoid using so many notepads and save trees and money. Two (most important) I would like to be able to search my handwritten notes by keyword (through text recognition).
I would like to use the tablet in such a away where every day would be a new entry and I would take notes with a stylus on my tablet as if it were a pad of paper. Throughout the day I could scroll or flip through my notes and take more notes as needed. However, the tablet's software would be able to leave my handwriting as is, but recognize my handwriting such that in the future, I could type in a key word and the tablet would find entries containing that word that I wrote by hand. Of course, the software would have to learn to read or understand my handwriting in order to allow my notes to be searchable. I would also be ok if the search found words that might be close to what I'm looking for given no handwriting recognition software is perfect.
Another things I'd like to be able to to with the tablet is transfer handwritten notes to my desktop and cut and paste it in a MS Word document. For example, I could draft a letter on a train, then when I get into work, I transfer my handwritten notes into MS Word and I would see my handwritten notes in a Word document, except what I wrote would be typed. I would want similar performance to scanning a handwritten document as a PDF, then using Adobe Acrobat Pro to use the OCR function to recognize the text so I could cut and paste from the PDF document into MS Word.
My ultimate question is: what's the best tablet and app/software combination for this? I did a brief search for the iPad and some note-taking apps, but none seem to provide what I'm looking for. I'm open to any hardware (Samsung, RIM, etc.) and software combination as long as it works and I can do it all for say...under $1,000.
