Question

T61 Black Screen

by dan4oram / October 6, 2014 9:27 AM PDT

I have an IBM T61 laptop. The screen keeps going black. Sometimes you can restart it and the screen will come back. I can connect to an external monitor with no problems. Is this a graphics card problem?

Clarification Request
How old and has the work been done?

The work is defined as canned air and replacing all the old heatsink compound. This stuff dries out and there are various symptoms like what you reported here.

Thank you. I will give that a try. Is there anything else that I should look at while I am in there?

Just the usual.

I get out the canned air and cotton swabs to leave it spotless.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
