Question

T3i+Rode Videomic hiss problems

Jun 9, 2014 5:53AM PDT

I recently purchased a Rode videomic for my dslr camera (the canon t3i) and have been noticing some problems with the audio it records. When I plug the external microphone in and record with it, the footage I play back has an obnoxious hiss so loud that I have to reshoot the footage using the default microphone. The other sounds in a shot are muffled and nothing can really be heard besides the hiss. It has nothing to do with AGC because T3is automatically turn that off. Any help?

My son who does audio work used an external audio recorder. Too many out there today then you merge it back in, in post production.

Could be. I might go see an expert later this week if no one else has an answer that works.

Have them try another mic.

My son and I both have the t3i. But as you suspect we went old school with audio recorders, mics and more.
