General discussion

T-mobile v. Verizon in NYC

May 8, 2005 12:34PM PDT

I've been a Verizon customer for a long time and am generally satisfied with the service, but I hear good things about T-Mobile. Has anyone out there switched? Or would advice me not to? And, if they have switched, any thoughts, warnings, recommendations.

Thanks for the help.

Before you consider switching, go to a local store to verify coverage in your area.

GSM is great if you travel, or you are into new phones
cingular's roll over save me when I move my office
three month I was using my cell, did not pay a penny over.
I am in the industry, T-mobile is a lame duck and Verizon is losing it
you can go to www.romeohifi.com and call me if you have any question we are in long island

Verizon is way better

Unless you really like T-Mobile's phones, I would advise against switching from Verizon to T-Mobile. You will be dissapointed in the loss of call quality. I am a resident of Queens and commute to the city every day, and in general, Verizon's call quality and service is way better. If you do decide to switch to a GSM carrier, I would advise T-Mobile, as I've had absolutely horrible experiences with Cingular.

Don't switch carriers based on phones

But based on service. If you want cool phones, then go with T-Mobile, if you want good service and good coverage then stay with Verizon. You have to set your priorities.

T-Mobile = Terrible Mobile

If you do all your talking in the city it may suit you fine, but if you travel don't expect to find yourself talking everywhere. Their service is spotty at best and lacking in many suburban and rural areas. If you live in a large metro area and that is the only place you'll be making calls it may be the plan for you. You have a few weeks to try it out and see if it works for you and cancel without the early termination fee. But be sure to try it everywhere you'll be using it.
