T-mobil rep talked me out of the Razor phone...?

Dec 20, 2005 1:11PM PST

I went to renew my t-mobil contract and get a razr phone at a T-mobil store and the sales guy talked me out of getting one -- said they were junk, loads returned each week, screen was "oil filled" and got air bubbles up inside it, etc.etc... I'm no tech type guy so I'm easily scared off, and I went with a samsung I really didn't want . (T-Mobil's selection is pretty slim.) I'm now spending some time checking on the web for this type of problem and can't find any. Is this guy correct?

As an aside, the alternate phone I really wanted from t-mobil was the Samsung P735, which the guy said i couldn't get -- Here I've been a customer for 9 years and they'd rather see me leave then give me the deal I'd get if I were a "new" customer... bizarre!

That's why we used ebay to purchase the phone we wanted for T-mobile, the Moto v360. We paid the same for it as T-mobile was selling them.

Razr hype
Dec 21, 2005 5:07AM PST

Razrs are built largely on hype and the sales rep was right to talk you out of it. I would actually say the screen on the Razr is one of its best parts so I dont know what the salesperson was talking about. I am not a fan of Motos in general because you cant put multiple numbers under the same name as you can with Sanyo, Samsung, Sony Ericsson, and many other companies. T-Mobile's limited selction of good phones has forced me to switch. Their best phone is samsung t809 but it is out of my financial reach.

I caution anyone from buying phones off of ebay!! In-fact dont do it!!! purchase a phone from a legit authorized dealer online or in person but always an authorized dealer, NEVER John Smith of Springfield, Any-State.

Don't be discouraged

I can't speak for that representative, but it wasn't necessarily bad advice for him not to recommend the razr. As noted by the previous poster, a lot of the razr's popularity is solely based on hype.

However, if you want the razr then get it. It's a good phone. My opinion is slightly biased because I have a strong disliking toward motorola after my experience with their v600.

Also, if you don't mind sliders, consider upgrading to the t809. I've had it for a little less than a week now and it's been pretty good. The only complaint is the battery and poor (poorer than moto that is) bluetooth implementation.

Hype????
Dec 22, 2005 8:36AM PST

I think the RAZR is more than just hype. Have you seen total number of RAZR sold? There in the millions. If the phone is so much Hype why is Samsung imitating? You have to admit that the RAZR is not bad looking phone and packed with features.

oh no please don't misinterpret what i said

I think the V3 razr is a fantastic looking phone. It feels solid despite its thin form factor and is full of great features.

Rather, it's merely my personal opinion that the razr is such a hot seller merely because it's nice and trendy. There are other phones with comparable features for significantly less money. If a customer likes the razr, then that's perfectly fine; just don't limit your options to the v3 or v3-like phones.

I don't know about the features but I say it's a good quality phone with some shortcomings...

Take the phone you have back....
Dec 28, 2005 2:09PM PST

Take the phone that you have back and buy the samsung t809. Its the best t-mobile phone its the same size as the razr (RAZR THIN!!!!!!!!!!!) AND ITS HAS WAY MORE FEATURES SUCH AS A MP3 PLAYER VIDEO RECORD N PLAYBACK BLUETOOTH & A MEGAPIXEL CAMERA. Just what i'd do, just go to the t-mobile store n check it out. CAUTION: MIGHT HURT YOUR POCKETS DUE TO THE HEFTY PRICE

Dirt behind the screen
Jan 14, 2006 9:52PM PST

The only problem I had with my RAZR it was getting dirt behind the glass of internal and external screens. I swapped the phone and keep it now in protective case. Otherwise it is a good phone and if you are Mototola guy you should like it.

I picked up the Razr from tmobile this week. It has worked fine phone wise - the design is beautiful and feels rugged - but I've since realized that there are other phones available with good deals etc. that have mp3 players etc.(motorola v360)/features that the Razr does not. I think I'm going for the v360 although I love the razr design... I'm not a complete slave to fashion.
