system tray and/or taskbar application speaker icon -

will not stay.
WinXP-Pro, Pent4; 512ram;


Opening Sound and Audio Devices, places check mark on
"place icon on task bar" only puts it there temporarily. Going back, the check mark is still there but the icon is gone from system tray/taskbar application notification.
I have throughly cleaned all viruses, spyware, malware, parasites, I.E. temp folders and windows temp files. Even ran disk defrag completely.

gklein, You could go to the link below and scroll down to Line 320 (left column) and click on "Restore Volume/Net Icon to Notification Area" to download a reg file fix. Save the REG File to your hard disk. Double click it and answer yes to the import prompt. It may correct the problem.
