system speaker beep help (for alerts)

hi i've just put a new hd in my pc and reloaded everything inlcuding win xp sp2. now this damn case speaker won't leave me alone. i found a way to turn it off in device manager (disable system speaker). trouble is it keeps coming back on when the computer has a need to alert me of something. there must be another setting somewhere??
any ideas?? thanks

If all else fails, it's just a couple of wires to unplug inside the case to prevent the speaker from getting a signal. Most of the time though, you can disable it in the CMOS.
