System Shutdown

by Kathie / April 21, 2004 12:58 PM PDT

I just did a system restore for WindowsXP. Now I keep getting a System Shutdown and it says something about NT Authority System and Windows must restart because of Remote Procedure Call. Any ideas on how to fix this?

Kathie, It's Most Likely The Blaster Worm

Start by downloading the newest blaster PRC update from the link below. Download the file to your desktop, shut down all background programs, including your antivirus, then double click on the file to install it. AFter it's installed then download the "Stinger" tool from the link below and run it, just to assure that the Blaster worm is resident on the computer. Next, visit the Windows Update site and install all of the Critical Updates.

Microsoft Security Bulletin MS04-012 Cumulative Update for Microsoft RPC/DCOM Security Update for Windows XP (KB828741)(828741)

McAfee Stinger Removal Tool

Hope this helps and let us know how it goes.

Grif,
Thank You very much. When I downloaded the stinger it found 5 infected files, 3 were the blaster worm and 2 were the nachi worm. Everything is working fine now.
Thanks,
Kathie
