System restore tab has disappeared

by Kiai / March 3, 2006 8:50 AM PST

I was trying to do a system restore when my computer froze and I had to turn it off. When I've rebooted and went back to system properties the system restore has disappeared altogether. I've been looking through the posts in the forum but everyone else seemed to have a system restore that didn't work, I haven't got one at all.
I also tried start>all programs>accessories>system tools>system restore
but that came up with the message ''System Restore is not able to protect your computer. Please restart and then run System Restore again'' Which I've done countless times.
One post mentioned a person had lost admin rights, I've still got mine.

I have been having a bit trouble. Trend micro housecall detected a trojan and some adware. I've got rid of the trojan but the adware has to be done manually.
They are ADW_SE.101318 and ADW_SE.101319
Also Spybot S&D detected something called MediaPlex and silly me went looking for something to get rid of it cos it kept coming back even when I'd got rid of it. I can't remember what I installed now but it was one of those ones that will detect for free and you have to pay to eliminate anything detected.

I know this bit should maybe be in a different forum but I'm not sure if it's related to the mysterious disappearance of my system restore......I dunno you turn your back for one minute.......:)

I'm running WinXP SP2 Mozilla (if you need to know that bit)
I've got Ad-Aware SE, AVG, SpywareGuard, Spyware blaster, microsoft anti-spyware and a-squared.

I'd appreciate any help

Yours desperately, Kiai x

P.S. MediaPlex is still there. Sad

Found it
by Kiai / March 3, 2006 9:43 AM PST

Cheers Tufenuf but I've already found it. I was hoping I'd get back before anyone had answered. I found a site by John Barnett computer journalist and it gave step by step instructions on how to get it back. I actually found it really easy which surpises me somewhat as I find it easier to get into trouble than I do out of it Happy

Many thanks again

Kiai xxx

P.S. I've got rid of that MediaPlex menace aswell. HAH!! Happy
