Question

System Restore Stopped Working

Apr 8, 2015 8:43PM PDT

The system restore function has stopped working, it goes through the mechanics of performing the function but the end result is a error message indicating it did not work. The restore function always worked in the past but no longer. Is there a way to correct this issue?

Answer
Have you tried turning it off and back on?

Hopefully, you're not using system restore on a regular basis as that might mean something else isn't right with your system. In any event, the usual first step is to turn it off for all drives. Restart the PC and all restore points should be gone. Next, you re-enable system restore for the boot drive only. I'll presume you don't try to install programs on another drive as system restore has no function on drives that just contain data. Anyway, try that, make a restore point and see if it works later. Back everything up before messing with this, however.

I will try this next time I need to attempt a restore for FSX.

That won't work...it will be too late

Waiting until the need arises won't help. If system restore is broken now, it will be broken then too. You fix it now so it will be ready later.

Also, Various Antivirus Programs Will Cause This Problem
Apr 9, 2015 8:59AM PDT

For example, if you let certain AV programs expire, such a Norton, it will frequently cause System Restore to fail.. If that's the case for you, try uninstalling your AV program.

Hope this helps.

system restore will fail even if Norton is current. With Norton you have to go into settings and disable "system protect" in order to do a system restore. Other av's do this as well.
