system restore point

Aug 1, 2007 10:33AM PDT

I think installing my printer has caused some problems with my computer and am going to try system restore.
Based on all my windows problems/solutions log, I found the date the windows errors began, and coincide with my printer...

My questions is when I choose the point to restore, do I check the point right before the date I installed the printer? or choose the point of the date of installation? Does it restore to the point right before the action or changes for that date/time?

I have one point with the date & time of the printer installation and the previous one is a couple minutes earlier with a Windows update...I'd be fine with either point, but wasn't sure if I did the restore point of updates if I would have to go back and update again.

Thanks!

I am guessing
Aug 2, 2007 12:23AM PDT

that it is my printer so I uninstalled and have been trying to re-install it. The first clue was the "spooler subsystem app" problem that came up when I was printing--or trying to.

When I checked the windows reported problems and solutions the log showed the spooler and the status monitor environment check problem too.

I checked at the Epson site to make sure my printer is compatible with Vista, and it is...I just need to get the drive set up, which should be a prompt choice when I install. I have to try the reinstall now that I have it all uninstalled.

I was going to try the system restore if I couldn't get the printer to work. My thought was even if the printer is the problem, the restore would put the computer back to before there was a printer ever installed in case everything didn't get uninstalled.

I am also getting the command box with an error message whenever I start or restart the computer. Not sure if that is related to the printer problem or if I have done something else to cause it! The last time it restarted it said not only "access denied" but system error 5...it popped up and closes rather fast, so I think that's it.

I'm off the original post about system restore, so I will post again if I am still having problems.

Thanks!
