system restore not working how do I fix?

I have read most of the posts about this issue and nothing helps I'm not the most 'puter savey person but have tried most things I'm comfortable with. I have also checked and made sure system restore was turned on and it is, I have run a virus scan ( Norton Pro )and made sure it (sr) was not excluded, spy Bot clean, Adaware comes back clean also... I read the Microsoft trouble shoot page and it didn't help.. Now what? I have 2 computers and they both do the same thing. Afew weeks ago I was able to delete the restore points and created a new one and it worked right after that but now nothing I do can make it work.. some one suggested an update for system restore but I never found it. I went to hp and ran their updates and that did not help either.. I'm stumped.. and I'm sure I'm not alone!!!

When you say it isn't working do you mean it isn't setting restore points. If it does snd you try unsuccessfully to restore does it send any error message. As i recall the computer must log 24 hours running time before a restore point is automatically set and this can take some time depending on how much you use your computer Have you tried to set a restore point? More information please.

it shows dates, and when I choose one it goes through the motions and reboots only to tell me "system restore unsuccessful ,your computer was not changed. Choose another date and try again" and when I choose another it does the same thing.. thanks for your help..

Try this. Go to control panel, system system restore, select c: drive and click on settings. There is a slider that selects the percentage of your hard drive set aside for system restores. Tweak it up a couple of percentage points. If that gives you back your system restore functionality, purge some of your old restore points. Believe it or not, the restore function can fill up a hard drive to the limit pretty fast.

Jerome. Why don't you just set a new restore point then wait a couple of days before calling it up. I suspect your computer may be frazzled by your ftantic recent astivity. give it time to stabalise then try again. If you have been running your anti-spyware etc this may be the best course of action It may also be a good idea to run your anti malware programs with your system restore disabled as such garbage likes to hide there and resurface after you run your anti spyware etc. Hang in there.
