Question

System Restore and Virus Detection

Mar 16, 2015 1:18AM PDT

I remember a while back reading something about that if you got a 'virus' and then system restore created a restore point before it could be detected, and then you ran a 'scan' that the 'virus' would not be removed. So from time to time, I disable system restore, run a scan, and then enable system restore again. Is this still a good practice or is it unnecessary with today's virus detection programs.

Windows 8.1, all updates, windows defender which runs daily quick scans, and I also run 'adwcleaner' from time to time. Surprised to see that 'adwcleaner' finds stuff.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions,

Eddie

And yes I do consult control panel / programs on a regular basis. Every once in a while I'll download the latest 'Malwarebytes' and Rkill and run them. And every few months, just because, I'll do a complete reinstall, hoping to keep the system "fresh".
