System restore

Dec 26, 2003 5:36AM PST

I had to run system restore and I understand I now have to redo all the critical updates and Service Pack 1. I tried the Service Pack and it wouldn't install(I have the CD).Something about Update.inf.Do I have to run another system restore? I am running WinXP home on an Hp with 512 ram. Thanks for any help, Mike

1. System Restore will undo some patches. It's correct behaviour if you go back to a date before you put in a patch. Nothing broken there.

2. SFC /SCANNOW on the other hand doesn't do that.

3. HP machines MAY have an issue with SP1. HP has a patch that you apply BEFORE SP1. Did you check if your machine needs it? (Part of my comment about untold stories.)

You could tell a longer story as to why you needed to use SR.
