system restore

can't initiate system restore. message reads to shut down and restart computer. have done this 3 times. have windows me. please help. thanks

Walton,

It would be nice to know exactly why you're attempting to run System Restore. What seems to be the problem? Have you tried running spyware and antivirus scans recently? Have you done a clean up of the unnecessary files on the computer and run Scandisk and Defrag to optimize the hard drive?

I'm sorry to say that the System Restore program is Windows ME can be very problematic and sometimes, simply doesn't work like it should. Some folks choose a different method of restoring their WinME computers such as third party backup programs.

Just a few questions here...

Have you installed the WinME System Restore patch which is suggested by the Microsoft Article below? If not, please try it:

Checkpoints that you create after September 8, 2001 do not restore your computer

Even if the above patch works, it may not fix the earlier restore points and therefore you won't be able to use SR at this time. Therefore, please try using the "Scanreg /restore" command per the link below:
