System Restore

Win XP, I wanted to revert back to an earlier time. I put in an older program that doesn't agree with XP. I took it out but I still get a warning. Sys restore has not created any restore points and it's turned on.

The older systems you typed scanreg /restore to find a known good restore point. It's seems it's not available on XP. Any suggestions? Thanks

Thanks Glenn,

It wasn't there. I called support, it was long and drawn out per-say. It is working now I suspect, I'll have to wait till tomorrow to see if it backs up again. I believe it will. Help is always appreiated.

Glad there is some success. System Restore can be tricky so sometimes just need to clean it out and start over. Maybe your problem is solved... let us know.

Thanks,

It did not create a restore point this morning at the scheduled time. I call HP but their advice on how it works is not right IMO. Besides I can't understand half of what they say. I took your advice and shut it off. Did a restart to make sure all restore points was cleared. I enabled it once again, did a restart and it did create a restore point. I'll wait till tommorrow to see if creates another point. Knowing about the F8 to start a known good registry point could come in handy.

It is still available, but it is slightly different. It is at the boot menu - F8 when booting up. You get to boot with the last known good configuration.

Try restoring your computer. Just go into System Restore and on the calendar you see, one of the numbers will be highlighted. Click on that number and your system will be restored back to that date. If your problem has occurred before the date listed, this will not help. If it occurred after the date it should put you right back to that date, before your problem occurred. System Restore does not automatically give you restore points, per se. You have to do this by going to the calendar and clicking ont he highlighted date to get what you want. Hope this helps.
