System RESTART issue

Aug 19, 2010 5:08AM PDT

Whenever I go to "Start" and choose "restart" from the "Shut Down" drop down window, the system goes to a completely black screen and never progresses beyond that point. If I tell the system to "Shut Down" and then manually start from the power button, everything works just fine. When installing new software and it requires a system restart, the same problem occurs. Problem began some months ago and the first time I noticed the issue was in conjunction with a Microsoft upgrade where a system restart was necessary. Since then, the problem has persisted. Using Windows 7 Ultimate. HP Pavillion M8226X, 3GB RAM, 500GB Disk. System new IN 2009 and always updated with software & driver releases. H E L P . . . . driving me crazy. Thanks.

Did you notice?

HP support has downloads only for Vista and no other OS. BIOS probably doesn't support complete requirements of W7.

System RESTART

Would make sense BUT my system was operating successfully for over a year before the problem began. Would think that if a BIOS problem, I would have experienced the problem from day 1.
