system resources

what is the biggest user of system resources?when i bootup my resources is 76%,after i connect it drops to 31%.in msconfig.the start up items are as follows:
mstask
load power profile
avg7.cc
avg7 emc
avg7amsvr
system tray
task monitor
scan reg.
spysweeper
e6task panel.

sorry for wasting a new discussion on this,i fouund low system resources by a reply from Robert Proffit.
in a post that he had a website to get the info.the next time i will search site for a question befofe posting.

If it says low in system resourses,you need more ram!!

128 or 256 needs too be bumped up too 512.If you're running a lot of applications or just have a heck of alot of stuff on that machine 128 or maybe 256 ram won't cut it.

my computer os a pentium 3.when i bootup computer the system resources is 74%.after i connect to home page itdrops to 31%.i am using earthlink total access,which has EL accelerator,scam blocker,spam blocker,popup blocker and a news ticker.also spyware blocker.could this cause the resources to drop to 31%?

Software uses resources.

You get to figure out which one uses too many.

Most of these blockers are to block the problems of Internet Explorer. Have you considered using Firefox?

Every product that you have running takes a piece of the machine.

Some products take very little other products take a bunch.

Since there's a limited number of pieces I limit my startup items to the things I really need and that way I don't waste the pieces and I have more pieces to play with while I'm running.

If I loaded a product and it used 40% of my pieces I would ask myself 'do I really need this product' or 'do I really need all the parts of this product'.

I've trashed products that didn't come close to being that much of a 'piece hog'.
