The system restore issues, causes are too many to list in any reply. You could reveal more such as "I use Norton AV" and I would know something or you can read Grif's reply at http://forums.cnet.com/5208-6122_102-0.html?threadID=328220&tag=forums06;posts#2968150
But for me I'd get my 7 DVD, uninstall firewalls, AV suites and stuff I can reinstall later to clear the path to Windows 7. No need to make the upgrade a hard one.
Vista Home Premium,64 bit,service pack 1,
System restore will not open and I am having trouble installing software, I think because of failure to create restore points. The computer is 6 months old but there are no restore points. When I check computer/properties/system protection under available disks it just says "searching" as it has for weeks, also all the boxes are greyed out. If I try running rstrui.exe I get a message saying that system restore is already running. I have tried this in safe mode also with the same results.
I have a Windows 7 upgrade coming and maybe this will fix the problem or maybe it wont upgrade because of this problem.
