System Recovery Partition Deletion Failure

Apr 13, 2007 1:53AM PDT

I just deleted the system recovery partition from my HP DV8305 Laptop and during the process (after i started the pc recovery and when the actual program for deleting the partition was starting) I got a blue screen that said that Windows had encountered an "unrecoverable" error and had to restart. I could not get any more info from this screen because it flashed for about 5 seconds and then the computer restarted. When i booted it up the partition was gone from "My Computer" but the space it was using did not register as existing. I went into computer management (by right clicking my computer and clicking management) and saw that the Main partition (that is my C:\ drive) registered with the right size in the box below the list of partitions but the capacity still reads the same as before the deletion. I fear i may have to reformat the hard drive to make this space usable. Do anyone of you have suggestions on how i can fix this problem?

Running:
Windows XP SP2
80 GB hard drive, 12 GB Recovery partition, 60 GB C: (Main Partition)
the rest of the space is used for system stuff i guess (i.e. Operating System...)

extend C: to fill the unused space. Careful shopping thru 'Froogle, Pricewatch or Pricegrabber' can usually help you find either of these at reasonable prices. You don't need the latest version of either to do the job.

As always...backup your data in the event of failure.
