hey everyone. i'm trying to reformat my older hp pavilion zt1180 with it's recovery disks. i'm having trouble doing it. after making the cd drive load before the hd, it tells me it does not see a "bootable restore cd"...anything i should try before giving up?

Perhaps your recovery CD is bad. This happened to me with my Sony Viao. I ended up having to buy a replacement set from Sony for around $30.

Some older laptops have failed CDROM drives and one of the signs is that the CD no longer boots. The good news is that you can test the CD on another machine to see if the media is good. Then a new CDROM drive is very cheap compared to a new laptop. Do try a CD lens cleaner since I find people putting their fingers on the lens too often.

i was afraid someone would say that. the cds have worked before; so that's not it. i tried a lens cleaner, but no luck. i don't want to cough up the cash for a new cd drive either...i think i'll try the cleaner one more time. thanks guys.

Then don't do system recovery

Many issues can be solved if the OS is still booting.

But your post didn't reveal why a system recovery was being done.
